Product Description
Imidacloprid 70% WG : Systemic Insecticide for Sucking Pest Control
Imidacloprid 70% WG is a systemic neonicotinoid insecticide in water dispersible granule form. It controls whitefly, aphids, jassids, thrips, and planthoppers in cotton, paddy, chilli, tomato, okra, and sugarcane. The WG formulation dissolves completely in water, leaves no oily residue, and works through both contact and systemic action.

When & How to Spray
- Spray at first appearance of sucking pests : early application prevents population build-up
- Cover the underside of leaves thoroughly : whitefly, jassids, and aphids cluster there
- Spray in early morning or evening : avoid peak heat and windy conditions
- Do not spray during flowering when bees are foraging : imidacloprid is toxic to bees
-
Pre-harvest interval (PHI): 7 days for vegetables, 14 days for cotton and paddy
Mode of Action
Imidacloprid binds to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the insect nervous system. This causes continuous nerve excitation, leading to paralysis and death. Because it is systemic, the molecule is absorbed through leaves and roots and moves through plant vascular tissue reaching pests feeding on sap from inside the leaf, not just those on the surface. Residual activity lasts 10–14 days per foliar application.
Important: Toxic to bees and aquatic organisms do not spray near water bodies or during pollination. Pre-harvest interval: 7 days for vegetables, 14 days for cotton and paddy. Wear gloves, mask, and full-sleeve clothing during application. Do not mix with alkaline compounds. Store in a cool, dry place away from food and livestock.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the dose of Imidacloprid 70% WG per litre of water?
The dose is 0.25–0.3 g per litre of water. This is a very low-dose formulation 70% active ingredient concentration means a small quantity covers large area.
What is the dose of Imidacloprid 70% WG per acre?
20–25 g per acre in 200 litres of water. Use 20 g/acre for light sucking pest infestations and 25 g/acre for heavy pest pressure.
Which pests does Imidacloprid 70% WG control?
It controls whitefly, jassids, aphids, thrips, brown planthopper (BPH), green leafhopper, and mealybugs in cotton, paddy, chilli, tomato, okra, sugarcane, and mustard.
Can Imidacloprid 70% WG be used for whitefly control in cotton?
Yes. Imidacloprid 70% WG is effective against whitefly in cotton at 0.25–0.3 g per litre. Spray at first appearance of adults on leaf undersides. Rotate with non-neonicotinoid insecticides after 2 sprays to manage resistance.
What is the difference between Imidacloprid 70% WG and 17.8% SL?
Imidacloprid 70% WG has a higher concentration of active ingredient per kg — it requires a much lower product dose per acre (20–25 g) compared to 17.8% SL (100–200 ml). The WG form is easier to measure, store, and transport with lower packaging waste.
How fast does Imidacloprid 70% WG work?
Contact action begins within a few hours of spraying. Systemic absorption is complete within 24–48 hours. Full residual protection lasts 10–14 days depending on pest pressure and crop canopy.
Is Imidacloprid 70% WG safe for use in paddy?
Yes. It is registered for BPH and green leafhopper control in paddy. Apply at 20–25 g per acre. Observe the 14-day pre-harvest interval before harvesting.
