Product Description
Krishikranti SUMETRA Metribuzin 70% WP is a selective, systemic pre-emergence and early post-emergence herbicide used in soybean, potato, wheat, sugarcane, and tomato. As a Group 5 photosystem-II inhibitor, Metribuzin is absorbed through both roots and leaves and controls broadleaf weeds and several annual grasses by stopping photosynthesis in target plants. It is the most trusted herbicide for weed-free soybean in India.
Key Benefits of SUMETRA (Metribuzin 70% WP)
- Controls 20+ broadleaf weeds and several annual grasses
- Dual action works pre-emergence and early post-emergence
- Absorbed through both roots and leaves for complete weed kill
- 30–45 days of residual weed control
- Highly effective in soybean against Trianthema, Amaranthus, and Echinochloa
- Cost-effective at ~₹400–₹600 per acre
How SUMETRA Works
Metribuzin blocks photosynthesis inside target weeds by stopping electron transport in the chloroplast. As a result, weeds gradually turn yellow, then brown, and finally die from energy starvation within 7–14 days after spraying.
Roots absorb it from the soil during pre-emergence application, while leaves absorb it directly during early post-emergence spray. Crops like soybean, potato, and wheat tolerate the herbicide because they rapidly metabolize the molecule.
SUMETRA Metribuzin 70% WP Dose : Crop-Wise Recommendation
| Crop | Target Weeds | Dose / Acre | Dose / Hectare | Water Volume | Spray Timing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Soybean | Trianthema, Amaranthus, Echinochloa, Digitaria | 200–300 g | 500–750 g | 200 L | Pre-emergence (0–3 DAS) |
| Potato | Chenopodium, Amaranthus, broadleaf weeds | 250–400 g | 625–1000 g | 200 L | Pre-emergence or pre-hilling |
| Wheat | Chenopodium, broadleaf weeds | 100–150 g | 250–375 g | 200 L | 30–35 days after sowing |
| Sugarcane | Annual broadleaf weeds & grasses | 500–700 g | 1.25–1.75 kg | 250 L | Pre-emergence (0–3 days after planting) |
| Tomato (Transplanted) | Broadleaf weeds | 200–300 g | 500–750 g | 200 L | Pre-transplanting / 0–3 days after transplanting |
Spray Guidelines
- Apply on moist soil with a fine tilth not dry or waterlogged
- Use a flat fan nozzle at low pressure for uniform soil coverage
- Maintain a 4–6 hour rain-free window after spray
- Do not disturb soil for 25–30 days after pre-emergence application
- Use the lower dose on sandy soils; higher dose on heavy black/clay soils
- Avoid in soybean varieties known to be sensitive check with local advisory

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Metribuzin 70% WP used for?
Metribuzin 70% WP is a selective herbicide used to control broadleaf weeds and annual grasses in soybean, potato, wheat, sugarcane, and tomato. It works both as a pre-emergence and early post-emergence weedicide.
What is the dose of Metribuzin 70% WP per acre?
The recommended dose is 200–300 g per acre (500–750 g per hectare) in 200 liters of water for soybean and tomato. For potato use 250–400 g per acre, for wheat 100–150 g per acre, and for sugarcane 500–700 g per acre.
What is the price of Metribuzin 70% WP?
Current pack-wise price of Krishikranti SUMETRA Metribuzin 70% WP is listed on this page. Krishi Bhandar offers it at farm-gate rates with pan-India delivery and Cash on Delivery available.
When should I spray Metribuzin 70% WP in soybean?
Spray as a pre-emergence herbicide within 0–3 days of sowing on moist soil, before weeds and crop emerge. For early post-emergence use, spray 15–20 DAS when weeds are at the 2–3 leaf stage and soybean has 1–2 trifoliate leaves.
Is Metribuzin 70% WP safe for all soybean varieties?
Most commercial soybean varieties tolerate Metribuzin at the recommended pre-emergence dose. However, some varieties show transient yellowing or injury, especially on sandy soils or under heavy rainfall after spray. Use the lower dose on sandy/light soils and consult local advisory for variety sensitivity.
Can Metribuzin be used in wheat?
Yes. Metribuzin 70% WP is used in wheat as a post-emergence herbicide at 100–150 g per acre, 30–35 days after sowing, for broadleaf weed control. It is especially effective against Chenopodium album.
Does Metribuzin have soil residue?
Yes, Metribuzin has 30–45 days of residual activity, which is its main strength for season-long weed control. However, this means sensitive crops like vegetables, sunflower, and pulses should not be sown immediately after a Metribuzin-treated field.
Can Metribuzin be tank-mixed with other herbicides?
Yes. In soybean it is commonly tank-mixed with Pendimethalin 30% EC for broader spectrum pre-emergence control, or paired with Imazethapyr for post-emergence broadleaf control. Always perform a jar compatibility test first.
