Product Description
Abamectin1.9% EC Translaminar Acaricide & Insecticide for Mite & Thrips Control
Abamectin 1.9% EC is a biological-origin insecticide and acaricide derived from the fermentation of Streptomyces avermitilis. It controls spider mites, thrips, and leafminers in chilli, cotton, tomato, brinjal, okra, cucumber, and other vegetables. The EC (emulsifiable concentrate) formulation provides translaminar penetration, meaning it moves through the leaf surface to reach pests feeding on the underside, where contact sprays cannot reach.
Abamectin 1.9% EC is the higher-concentration formulation of abamectin, providing equivalent mite and pest control at a lower product volume per acre compared to standard 1.8% EC formulations available in the market.
What is Abamectin 1.9% EC Used For?
Abamectin 1.9% EC is used for control of spider mites, thrips, and leafminers in vegetable crops, chilli, cotton, and ornamentals. It is particularly effective where mite and thrips populations have developed resistance to conventional synthetic pyrethroids and organophosphates.

Water volume: 200 litres per acre for foliar spray. Mixing tip: Add EC to half-filled tank, agitate well, fill to volume. Spray both leaf surfaces especially the underside where mites and thrips cluster. Repeat interval: 10–15 days. Maximum sprays per season: 2. Rotate
When & How to Spray Abamectin 1.9% EC
- Spray at first sign of mite or thrips infestation : silvering of leaves, leaf curl, or bronzing indicate early mite damage
- For thrips in chilli : spray when flower buds appear and thrips adults are first observed on young leaves
- For spider mites in cotton: spray when webbing appears on leaf underside, especially during hot dry weather
- For leafminers : spray when serpentine mines first appear on leaves
- Cover leaf undersides thoroughly : mites and thrips feed and shelter on the underside of leaves
- Spray in early morning or evening: avoid spraying during peak heat above 35°C
- Do not spray during flowering: abamectin is toxic to bees
- Add a sticker/spreader to improve coverage on waxy leaf surfaces
Abamectin 1.9% EC Mode of Action
Abamectin is a macrocyclic lactone derived from the soil bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis.
Abamectin binds to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels (GluCl channels) in the insect and mite nervous system. This causes an irreversible increase in chloride ion permeability, leading to hyperpolarisation of nerve and muscle cells, paralysis, and death. Because it targets a receptor not affected by conventional insecticides, it is highly effective against mite and thrips populations that have developed resistance to pyrethroids and organophosphates.
Additionally, abamectin has translaminar activity it penetrates the leaf cuticle and forms a reservoir in the leaf mesophyll tissue. This means pests feeding on the underside of leaves, inside leaf tissue (leafminers), or in concealed positions are controlled even if they were not directly contacted by the spray.
| Property | Detail |
|---|---|
| Chemical Origin | Fermentation product of Streptomyces avermitilis |
| Target Site | Glutamate-gated chloride ion channels (GluCl) |
| Action Type | Contact + Translaminar (non-systemic) |
| Pest Stages Controlled | Nymphs, larvae, adults not eggs |
| Residual Activity | 7–14 days foliar |
| Resistance Profile | Effective against pyrethroid & OP-resistant mite populations |
Important: Toxic to bees do not spray during flowering or when bees are active. Toxic to fish and aquatic organisms do not spray near water bodies. Pre-harvest interval (PHI): 3 days for vegetables, 7 days for chilli, 14 days for cotton. Wear gloves, mask, goggles, and full-sleeve clothing during application. Do not mix with alkaline compounds. Store in cool, dry place away from food and livestock.
Why Choose Abamectin 1.9% EC Over Other Acaricides?
- Biological origin : derived from natural fermentation, lower environmental persistence than synthetic acaricides
- Unique IRAC Group 6 : no cross-resistance with pyrethroids, organophosphates, or neonicotinoids
- Translaminar activity: reaches hidden pests inside leaf tissue without systemic uptake
- Controls both mites and thrips : single product for two major pest types
- Short PHI : 3 days for vegetables means it fits into intensive vegetable crop schedules
- Resistance management tool: ideal rotation partner in IPM programs
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Abamectin 1.9% EC used for?
Abamectin 1.9% EC is used for the control of spider mites, thrips, yellow mites, and leafminers in chilli, cotton, tomato, brinjal, okra, cucumber, and vegetables. It is effective against pest populations resistant to conventional insecticides.
What is the dose of Abamectin 1.9% EC per litre of water?
The dose is 0.5 ml of Abamectin 1.9% EC per litre of water. For per-acre application, use 100–150 ml in 200 litres of water depending on crop and pest pressure.
What is the mode of action of Abamectin?
Abamectin binds to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels (GluCl) in the insect and mite nervous system. This causes irreversible paralysis and death.
Can Abamectin 1.9% EC control spider mites in chilli?
Yes. Abamectin 1.9% EC is highly effective against spider mites and broad mites in chilli. Spray at 0.5 ml per litre when mite infestation first appears silvering of leaves is the key early symptom. Cover leaf undersides thoroughly.
Is Abamectin 1.9% EC available in India?
Yes. Krishikranti Antigo Abamectin 1.9% EC is available for online purchase at Krishibhandar.com with free delivery across India. It is not available on Amazon India — purchase directly from Krishi Bhandar for a genuine product.
What is the difference between Abamectin 1.8% EC and 1.9% EC?
Abamectin 1.9% EC has a slightly higher active ingredient concentration than 1.8% EC. The 1.9% formulation provides equivalent pest control at the same or slightly lower dose, with comparable efficacy.
Does Abamectin control eggs of mites?
No. Abamectin controls nymphs, larvae, and adult stages of mites and thrips but has no ovicidal activity it does not kill eggs. A repeat spray after 7–10 days is recommended to control newly hatched nymphs from eggs present during the first spray.
Which crops can I use Abamectin 1.9% EC on?
Abamectin 1.9% EC can be used on chilli, cotton, tomato, brinjal, okra, cucumber, beans, and ornamentals for spider mite, thrips, and leafminer control.
